Satya Nadella on AI taking Away Jobs

Many people are curious about how AI technologies like ChatGPT and Google Bard will change the nature of employment as they become more widely available and potent. Will they enact new opportunities or eliminate those that already exist? Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella believes that new technologies always have an impact on jobs, replacing some but also creating new ones, despite the fact that many experts have differing perspectives on that question.

Nadella recently shared his opinion in an interview with CNBC. He said that whenever a new technology is developed, there is usually an impact on jobs, frequently leading to “real displacement.” He did, however, accept the possibility of new work prospects brought about by new technologies. Nadella thinks that AI has the ability to create new jobs in the future in light of this viewpoint.

Nadella says, “There could be a billion developers, after all. The world actually requires a billion developers. Consequently, the notion that this is essentially a democratizing instrument to enable access to new information and technology easier so that the learning curve’s ramp-up is easier.”

However, Microsoft CEO is of the opinion that information must still be processed by humans despite new technologies. He thinks AI will “create net new jobs” and “satisfy current jobs.” Additionally, Nadella hinted that the company’s objectives would result in higher wages for workers.

Advancements in AI Causes Stir

Rising popularity of AI based systems have caused a stir in the Silicon Valley. Bigwigs like Musk and Wozniak have demanded a moratorium on developing AI systems that are more potent than GPT-4. They were worried about the “profound risks to society and humanity” that AI can cause. These issues are also being dealt with by Microsoft. They have invested a sizable amount in OpenAI and integrated its technology into the Bing search engine.

Nadella said that the advancement in AI is rapid but heading in the right direction. He underlined the value of keeping humans involved rather than cutting them out. He said that Microsoft had chosen this as an intentional design decision. “If anything, I sense that things are moving quickly, but quickly and in the correct way. In contrast to being out of the loop, humans are in the loop. It’s a decision we made in terms of design, at least,” he remarked.

Bill Gates and Nadella both emphasized the advantages that AI could have for education. In the interview, Nadella predicted that ultimately pupils would have access to “AI tutors” that would help them overcome their aversion to learning. Bill Gates had recently spoken about similar AI driven tutors. He went on to say that while critical thinking will always be “very much what humans do,” it is important to learn and use new tools in the learning process.

SingularityNET CEO Ben Goertzel also recently said that more than 80% of current jobs will soon become obsolete.  Ben was talking in a Web Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
