GT won the match by one over thanks to a splendid Shubman Gill half-century, an outstanding Mohit Sharma debut, and a Trademark Tewatia finish. Gujarat Titans got off to a flying start as they attempted to chase down a score of 154 on an excellent batting surface.
GT prevailed in the chase that began with an explosion of fours thanks to the incredible grace of Shubman Gill and the unwavering intent of Wriddhiman Saha.
Kagiso Rabada rescued PBKS by taking his 100th IPL wicket and removing the dangerous Saha just as the GT openers reached their fifty-run partnership.
Together with Shubman Gill, the young Sai Sudharsan kept up the chase’s pace with casual strokes. At the midpoint, GT was 80/1.
Following the dismissals of GT captain Hardik Pandya and Sai Sudharsan by Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar, respectively, PBKS recovered with two fast wickets.
David Miller joined Gill at the crease as he maintained his excellent batting performance and scored his half-century with a four.
Sam Curran bowled out Shubman Gill after he had been sent up to bat with seven needed off the last over to regain momentum. Rahul Tewatia, though, scooped Curran and struck the go-ahead runs to secure the victory for GT. Earlier, the skipper for the Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya, decided to field first after winning the toss.
As soon as the second ball was bowled, Prabhsimran Singh was caught within the circle, giving Mohd. Shami the opportunity to enter the action.
As Matthew Short and captain Shikhar Dhawan counterattacked with powerful drives, GT’s early-wicket lead was wiped out. The PBKS captain was taken out by Irish left-arm pacer Josh Little’s delivery.
With his powerful hits, Short continued to make the most of the powerplay, and after six overs, PBKS was at 52/2.
Matthew Short’s 36-run performance for PBKS was ended by Rashid Khan’s masterful googly. Jitesh Sharma and Bhanuka Rajapaksa kept the scoring going as PBKS led 75/3 at the midway point. Hardik Pandya’s last-second DRS call put an end to the pair’s 37-run partnership. Jitesh Sharma was caught behind and out for 25 by GT debutant Mohit Sharma. PBKS were at 99/4 with five overs remaining as GT kept preventing the opportunity for scoring runs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who held out to the deep off the bowling of Alzarri Joseph, succumbed to the pressure.
Shahrukh Khan got things rolling quickly and hit a six off the first ball he encountered. However, Mohit Sharma took his second wicket of the innings in the last over, dismissing Sam Curran.
PBKS were limited to 153-8 in the first innings despite 11 runs being scored in the final over of the innings thanks to two excellent run-outs by Wriddhiman Saha.
