LSG Vs GT: Saha & Gill’s determination sets a massive Titans victory

After defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans are almost guaranteed a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs. The Titans now lead the league with the best net run rate of 0.951 after 11 games and 16 points.

Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, the highest partnership for the Titans at 142 for the first wicket in 12.1 overs, provided the foundation for the victory. They reached 227 for 2 thanks to Saha’s 81 off 43 and Gill’s unbeaten 94 off 51 at the end.

Quinton de Kock, who was participating in his debut game of the year, and Kyle Mayers responded by giving LSG a start of 88 in 8.2 overs. However, once Mohit Sharma removed Mayers to end that stand, the new batters were unable to maintain the necessary pace.

The match was noteworthy because Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya became just the second pair of brothers to lead their respective teams in T20 cricket against one another. When Mike was in charge of the Sydney Thunder and David was in charge of the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League in 2015–16, the Hussey brothers clashed twice.

Mayers, de Kock respond in kind

Titans’ defence went live by Mohammed Shami with a four-run over. However, Mayers and de Kock hammered nine fours and a six in the following three overs. Hardik was forced to use both wristspinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad during the powerplay as LSG quickly reached 50 in four overs. However, the Titans experienced no relief. In the first two overs of the Afghan pair, the LSG openers scored three fours and a six.

Mohit  brings Titans back

A few slower balls from the Titans’ at-bats had gotten trapped in the surface. The batter mishit one towards deep square leg, and Mohit used the same tactic to get rid of Mayers. Rashid ran in diagonally to his right and finished the catch with a slide.

LSG was significantly slowed down by Mayers’ wicket. LSG only scored 33 runs in the following six over, which included the one in which he was struck. They now needed 107 runs from the final six overs.

De Kock attempted to restart the pursuit by hitting Mohit for a six, but the spinner responded by getting rid of Marcus Stoinis with yet another slower ball. Rashid effectively ended the match by returning de Kock in the following over. Prior to Mohit’s dismissal of both him and Krunal, Ayush Badoni made an effort to lessen the loss’s margin. He finished with 4 for 29.
