Harry Brook put an end to a run of low scores with an unbroken 55-ball 100 that
included ruthless striking against pace and thoughtful attack rotation against spin. As
Sunrisers Hyderabad reached a stunning 228 for 4, Aiden Markram was similarly
devastating, smashing 50 off 26 balls. Kolkata Knight Riders required a miracle for
the third time in three games after being reduced to 96 for 5 in the 11th over of the
chase. With 58 needed from the final three overs and Nitish Rana’s 41-ball 75
keeping their hopes alive, they had Rinku Singh and Shardul Thakur in the middle,
their miracle workers from the previous two games. Rinku made a valiant effort with
an unbroken 58 off 31, but it wasn’t to be this time.
Brook shows his class
Brook had 29 runs in three innings with a strike rate of 74.35 before this game. But
one had the impression that his ascent was imminent. On Friday, he got things going
by driving Umesh Yadav’s opening delivery through the covers for four. He added
two more fours in the next over, scooping and dragging the bowler with minimal
fanfare.
He exposed his stumps to Lockie Ferguson and sent an ineffective full ball to the cover boundary. In Umesh’s subsequent over, he utilized the same method, and the results were even better: two consecutive sixes. Sunrisers quickly reached 43 for no loss in three overs, thanks to Brook.

Russell's double-strike
Even though Andre Russell hadn’t bowled yet this season, it only took one ball for
him to have an impact. Brook appeared to be unstoppable, but Mayank Agarwal was
having difficulty. By getting him caught at short third for 9 off 13 balls, Russell put an
end to his suffering. Rahul Tripathi smashed a few fours, but on the final delivery of
the over, he top-edged a pull, giving Russell his second wicket.
